Elmira, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - A man charged for killing a pregnant 19-year-old woman was back in Chemung County Court today.
35 year old Arteamus Wells' plea of insanity was denied in court today.
The Huntley Hearing determined statements he made to police, admitting he killed Erin Jade Smith, can and will be used as evidence.
Elmira police say Wells admitted killing ex-girlfriend Erin Jade Smith at her 430 Hawthorn Court Apartment in Elmira, in December of last year.
Wells allegedly stabbed Smith with a pair of scissors and strangled her at the residence.
The victim's mother says Smith was 5 months pregnant but Wells was not the father.
A close friend of the Smith family, Jessica Martinez, spoke with Action News right after the hearing today.
Martinez says "it feels like we are finally getting justice and it answered a lot of questions to hear the officers read detail by detail what Wells admitted he did to her."
Wells' trial will begin in Chemung County Court on April 25th, just one day before Smith was expected to give birth to her child.
