NYSEG: Why your bill is so high

(WBNG Binghamton) NYSEG customers may have noticed a hike in their energy bills over the past few months.

The pricing of a NYSEG bill is based on delivery costs and supply costs.

While NYSEG hasn't raised its delivery cost since September 2012, supply costs, out of NYSEG’s control, have gone up.

Recently, NYSEG did a study showing that with the increased supply cost a customer’s bill could go up 12-percent.

NYSEG also stresses that colder temperatures will play a huge factor in monthly bills.

With temperatures being five degrees colder than the ten year average this winter season, heating systems will have to work harder to keep houses at a steady temperature. NYSEG calls it a multiplier effect.

"It's more important than ever to remember to turn your thermostat down at night or when you're not home. To remember to turn lights off, turn computers off when they're not being used," Clay Ellis with NYSEG said.
