Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Farm-fresh food, grown and sold in the middle of the city!

Today was the first day of the new farm stand on Tudor Street in Binghamton. It features all seasonal vegetables grown right on-site.

City kids from the Summer Youth Employment Program are working the stand, and volunteers who are coordinating the farmstand's say this little corner of the city serves people in a big way.

"In an area where there isn't a lot of food available -- in this area particularly there is not a grocery store. And our goal here was to grow some healthy food at affordable prices," said Lauren Tonti with the Binghamton Urban Farm Project.

The farmstand will be open every Thursday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. This afternoon, the kids had a tasting for anyone who stopped by. They prepared foods with ingredients found in the Urban Garden.

Also, Frito-Lay will be donating $10,000 dollars to the Urban Farm for a greenhouse. That will be built in the end of September, so farm-fresh food can be grown even when it's cold outside.
