Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's a dream come true for a father-son duo who are opening up a brewery at 110 Washington Ave. in Endicott.
When Zach Pedley's father Eric started brewing his own beer for fun in 1992, he had no idea that one day he'd be opening up his own brewery with his son.
"It was a hobby for me, it was just something to start getting into," said Eric.
More than 20 years later, the father-son duo are creating their own brews for sale to the public.
"It's similar to being a chef. When you're a brewer, you get to create things that people enjoy," Eric said.
Zach wanted to follow in his family's footsteps. The Pedley's have been doing this for a long time.
"Some of the inspiration came from me. I think other inspiration came from his grandfather who was a wine maker," Eric said.
But what really propelled Zach into brewing was a present he got for his birthday.
"My friend got me a case of Budweiser for my 21st birthday, and it was not good at all," said Zach.
After that, he started making his own beer in his spare time.
"It was getting to the point where we were like either we have to open a brewery, or we're going to have all this beer in the basement," Zach said.
Zach's friends liked his beer so much he felt he had to take it public.
"We were giving it to co-workers and a lot of our friends and friends of friends. And they were getting back to us with a lot of feedback and saying this is some of the best beer they've had," Zach said.
Zach, a graduate of Binghamton University with a degree in graphic design, was having trouble finding work in his field. This brewery gives him a job, as well as outlet for his creativity.
"I just want another way to show my artistic creativity. And with brewing I can do that," Zach said.
Not only that, he designs all the artwork for his beers. All of the beers will be available for sale at North Brewery's grand opening on Feb. 15.
