Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) As the cost for textbooks go up for college students, the financial burden grows to keep up.

SUNY Broome is hoping to ease that burden by giving away $500 to help one student buy books.

It's an annual event. Students enter their names into a drawing during their college orientations.

Amanda Courtright's a 2013 graduate of Union Endicott High School and the lucky winner of the $500.

"I've been having enough trouble with just trying to find a job and getting a decent car and I'm not exactly from the richest family," Courtright said.

Courtright says she plans to stay at BCC for two years and then transfer out to another school.

She hopes to work with children in the future.
