Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Fire Department kicks off their boots in hopes that you'd fill them up with money.

Firefighters were at the corner of Clinton and Front Street in Binghamton as part of the "Fill the Boot" campaign.

The fire department is working with the the Muscular Dystrophy Association to raise money for research and to send local children to the MDA summer camp.

In past years, the department has raise more than $5,000 for the cause and hopes for even higher numbers this year.

"People are giving whatever they have, and then when they don't have anything they're apologizing for it, so it's been very well received," said Chris Mallery with the Binghamton Fire Department.

MDA has partnered with the International Association of Firefighters since the 1950's.
