Oneonta, NY (WBNG Binghamton) An Oneonta firefighter sustains a minor shoulder injury, after the department battles what they call "stubborn fire" at a popular eatery in the city through the night.

The Oneonta Fire Department says the call to the Undercover Eggplant came in just before 1:30 Thursday morning.

Firefighters arrived to find smoky conditions.

Four and a half hours later, they had the fire out.

The restaurant sustained heavy damage.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire.

They say battling the flames was difficult because of the way the building was constructed.

Oneonta Fire Chief Patrick Pidgeon says the construction had been altered several times.

That made getting to the heart of the fire very challenging.

The Oneonta firemen were assisted by FAST teams from Worcester and Franklin.
