Fire in Richford

Richford, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Crews respond to a fire along Route 79 Wednesday in a Tioga County town.

The call went out around 1:15 p.m. at 997 Route 79 in the Town of Richford.

Fire Chief John Keener the cause of the fire was not suspicious, but would not provide any other details at this time.

Keener said a family of as many as four people lived there but no one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.

The structure fire was "extremely hard to get out" according to the fire chief. The house is a complete loss.

Traffic was rerouted until just before 6 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of State Routes 79 and 38.

Fire departments from Newark Valley and Berkshire assisted at the scene, along with NYSEG.
