Deposit, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Deposit man was sent to the hospital during a house fire on Sunday.

Crews were called to the home at 39 Elm St. just after 9 a.m.

A family of eight was living in the home at the time of the fire. The man who owned the home was sent to the hospital after being burned on his hands and feet.

"We're unsure at this time what caused it,” said Deposit Fire Department Chief Shaun Rynearson. “When we got here, the fire was blowing out the second story window. It started in that front window over there you can see.”

Four departments were battling the fire with two departments on standby. Putting it out was difficult due to strong wind rekindling the flames.

“The wind keeps blowing it back up,” said Rynearson. “Until we get in there and get everything pulled out of there and get the fire out, it’s just going to keep. The winds are against us right now.”

No word on the condition of the man who was sent to the hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
