Five arrested in jail shakedown

Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Five inmates are arrested on felony charges after a shakedown at the Broome County jail.

The inmates were arrested on charges of promoting prison contraband after corrections officers searched cells earlier this week.

The Sheriff's Office says Ramal Abdullah and George Neye were both found to be in possession of Marijuana.

Deputies say Charles Alexander had metal pieces tucked inside of his pants that he broke off the toilet in his cell and wrapped in a sock.

Brittan Purcelle was found with a burning wick and a lighter.

Bruce Cowans was found with a sharpened toothbrush under his mattress.

All five inmates were charged and arraigned in the Town of Dickinson Court and taken back to jail.
