Deposit, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Several fire agencies respond to a house fire in the Town of Deposit.

The call went out just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday for the home at 22 Steam Mill Rd.

Upon arriving, Deposit firefighters found heavy smoke in the house and the basement was fully involved.

Firefighters used a nearby creek for water to put the fire out.

Six agencies, all volunteer were called in for assistance, including Windsor, Hapursville, Trout Creek, Masonville, Hancock and Oquaga.

"It is difficult on the volunteer departments to get manpower, so we were kind of short-staffed there for a little while, so I needed the extra manpower to help attack the fire," said Deposit Fire Chief, Shaun Rynearson.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within 20 to 30 minutes.

The cause is still under investigation.
