Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Johnson City Middle School concluded their annual food drive Thursday afternoon.

Every year, the school encourages students to bring in food to donate to families within the school system who rely on school meals throughout the week.

These donations help feed the families through the holiday vacation.

Organizers say this event helps to truly build a sense of community within the school.

Johnson City Middle School Principal, Joseph Guccia, said, "We have a lot of our families who are in need, but we also, and I think this is proof, that we have so many students and staff members who rise to the occasion when help is needed. So I'm just very proud of our whole school community that we're able to help."

The boxes of food were distributed to the awaiting families Thursday afternoon.
