Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Don McManus, 79, of Endicott was the first Democrat elected to the office of Broome County Executive in 1976.
He passed away on the evening of November 20, 2012 with his wife Kathleen and family at his side.
His family said he put forth a courageous battle with Leukemia.
Calling hours will be Sunday 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Allen Memorial Funeral Home in Endicott.
The funeral mass will be held Monday at 10:00 am at St Anthony of Padua Church in Endicott.
Don McManus spent more than a decade in public service and served in the administrations of Governors Hugh Carey and Mario Cuomo.
He became a Town of Union Council member in 1970 and Town of Union Supervisor in 1974.
After serving a term as Broome County Executive he was tapped by Governor Hugh Carey to be the Regional Ombudsman. Other New York State jobs included Director of Regulatory Affairs, Acting Secretary of State and Deputy Director of NYS Thruway Authority.
