Former fire chief dies

Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) According to his obituary, Edward J. Franz, 71, of Owego died after a brief battle with cancer.

He retired from IBM after 26 years and worked at Estey, Munroe and Fahey Funeral Home.

Franz served the Owego Fire Department and Squad for more than fifty years, including as Fire Chief.

Calling hours will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15 at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home at 15 Park St., Owego.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 300 Main St. with Rev. William Moorby officiating.

Memorial donations may be made in Ed Franz's name to Owego Fire Department, Training Facility Fund, 178 Main Street, Owego, NY 13827.
