Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) People opposed to fracking started a water drive to collect water for three families in Franklin Forks, Pa.
Dozens of people stood together in front of Binghamton City Hall Friday afternoon.
Families from Franklin Forks have methane in their wells. They believe gas drilling by WPX Energy contaminated their water.
WPX has been supplying their households with clean water for more a year. But, the state's Department of Environmental Protection found the methane was not from drilling. In fact, it's similar to naturally occurring gas found in Salt Springs State Park.
Upon the state's ruling, WPX Energy stopped filling the family's water buffaloes. They're now threatening to take the tanks away as well.
Some people in New York have decided to give free, clean water to the families in support of their situation.
"It touches our hearts that so many people up here care about what happens to us. We've had our own community turn our backs on us. So it's very touching, it makes me want to cry," said Franklin Forks resident Tammy Manning.
Manning says she's reached out to the DEP and asked for a copy of their research, she says they have yet to send her any more information.
