Funeral services for Franklin Fire Dept. assistant chief

(WBNG Binghamton) The Delaware County emergency services community mourns the loss of Franklin Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief James C. Wilber, who died in the line of duty.

Delaware County Emergency Services said it appears Wilber suffered a cardiac event while responding to a call Sunday morning.

He was taken to Tri-Town Regional Hospital, where he later died.

Delaware County Emergency Services said Wilber was a dedicated member of the fire service with more than 40 years of volunteering. He served 39 of those years with the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.

Wilber is survived by his wife, son and sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Franklin Central School. A reception will be held following the service at the Franklin Fire Department. Any fire departments wishing to bring fire apparatus is asked to please limit it to a one ton or smaller vehicles. Fire departments wishing to attend are asked to contact the Delaware County Emergency Services Office at (607) 746-9600.
