Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A majority of Mirabito Energy Products' diesel and gasoline supply originates in Linden, New Jersey.

A city hit by Hurricane Sandy, a city without power for several days.

"The power went out there, so there was no way for the fuel to be pumped up the line to our area," said Supply Manager Jason Mirabito.

And that caused panic.

"Supply was severely affected for really the whole north east," said Director of Marketing Lindsay Meehan. "We've definitely had concerned customers calling and making sure that they are going to be able to get gasoline. And the answer has been yes."

As Sandy neared the coast, Meehan said Mirabito stocked up on fuel in their own storage facilities. The company also got a permit to bring in fuel from Canada.

This preparation meant supplies lasted in Binghamton. It also meant the company was able to lend a helping hand in New York City and surrounding areas.

"Our response was two-fold. One, we were taking trucks from here and bringing fuel down and two, we were allowing trucks who couldn't load at the facilities downstate to come and load at our facilities to bring back," said Mirabito.

Over five loads of diesel and gasoline were sent downstate, to areas Mirabito doesn't normally deliver to.

"We were able to figure out, operationally, how to get trucks down into the city, into New Jersey, to bring them transport trucks full of the fuel they needed to hopefully get their vehicles going and keep the recovery process moving," said Meehan.

A lot of that diesel aided the Mass Transit Authority, MTA, fueling up emergency vehicles working to get NYC's subways running again.

"I'll tell you what, there's some guys that work for us that did some amazing things in the last week," said Mirabito.
