Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A garbage truck slammed into a railroad bridge Tuesday afternoon, closing a road and severely damaging the railroad.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office said it happened on Patch Road in the town of Chenango.
A Waste Management garbage truck heading toward an NYS&W railroad bridge was taller than the posted limit.
The truck hit the bridge, causing extensive damage.
The crashed closed Patch Road between Jason Drive and Asbury Street. It will remain closed until further notice. The Sheriff's Office is urging drivers to find alternate routes.
The railroad company says they will begin repairs immediately, but they don't know when trains will be allowed to resume running.
Deputies issued the driver of the truck, Frank Contino, 32, a ticket for failure to obey a traffic control device.
