Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) One of the first signs of spring in the Southern Tier is the Binghamton St. Patrick's Day parade.
But there will be some small changes to this year's event.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians spearheads the parade.
The group eliminated large trucks carrying floats on flatbed trailers. The concern is that the new roundabout downtown will be so crowded that it could be dangerous for bigger trucks traveling on the narrow part of the road.
Mayor Matt Ryan said he understands the concerns of the organizers, especially since this will be the first year with the new traffic circle.
"The crowds have gotten bigger and bigger, I think after talking to Tom, they're more concerned about the crowds and how big vehicles are because we want to make sure nothing happens to people on the street who are watching the parade," Ryan said.
The parade will be slightly shorter..
Organizers said people watching the parade shouldn't even notice the changes.
