Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Local high school girls raise money to help young women in need all over the world.

The group is called Girl Up. It's an organization raising awareness for the challenges some girls face in other countries.

The girls at Maine-Endwell High School are urging community members to help them send donations to the United Nations Foundation. Friday, they held a bake sale and sold raffle tickets outside of Sam's Club for the cause.

"We are helping establish health clinics in different countries," said organizer Morgan Wood, "building schools and funding campaigns against child marriage"

Wood is a junior at Maine-Endwell High School. She organized this chapter of Girl Up, and she's only 17-years-old. She said it's the only Girl Up chapter in the Southern Tier.

"I'm excited because I'm helping other girls in different countries," Wood said. "It's not about me."

Wood said her goal was to raise five hundred dollars on Friday to send overseas. If you would like more information about Girl Up, or to donate, click here
