Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Veterans in Broome County are cashing in a program to help them find discounts at more than 100 local retailers and restaurants.
Broome County Executive Debbie Preston announced more than 800 new people have signed up for the Veterans Discount Card since she started pushing the program in 2012. More than 1,500 vets are able to receive discounts of anywhere from five to thirty percent at local retailers and restaurants.
"When I took office, this was a little known program that had about 30 businesses participating," said County Executive Debbie Preston. “The contribution made by the executive's office, the Broome County clerk's office, and the Broome Security division, with their support and cooperation, this program has become a huge success and immensely popular among our veterans."
More than 115 businesses participate in the program. Any veteran is eligible and can apply for the card at the Broome County Clerk’s Office located in the county office building on Hawley Street.
