Hancock, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A boil water advisory is in effect for the village of Hancock due to a water main break.

Village crews have been working since early Tuesday morning to repair the main on east Front Street.

The village hopes to have water service restored on Tuesday. It will have to have water samples tested for bacteria.

Until the results come back and show its safe, there is a boil water advisory.

Water from the tap which may be used for drinking, preparing food or brushing teeth should be boiled for at least two minutes first.

This impacts about 500 households plus businesses in the village.

Anyone with questions or concerns can call the Hancock Village Office at (607) 637-5341.
