Locke, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's a one of a kind getaway destination.
The Liberty Lodge Outfitters located in the hills of Cayuga County is a non for profit organization dedicated to help those who served in the armed forces to heal.
Action News Reporter Leigh Dana takes us there.
Greg Amira is a 9/11 survivor and Iraq War Veteran.
Wounded overseas, Amira has had numerous reconstructive surgeries.
He's visiting Liberty Lodge in Locke for the first time to help him recover from pain, both physically and mentally.
"It's very frustrating and this gives me the chance to get away from all of it," he said.
Open for two years, more than 70 people have stayed at the Lodge.
Director and host, Kevin Workman, created the destination spot to help veterans relax and recover from war.
"We just want them to come in feel like they're walking into their grandparents' house, have a good time. Leave the dust from Iraq and Afghanistan on the porch and have a good time," said Workman.
And get back out into nature.
The lodge offers fishing and hunting excursions, an activity Amira has now fallen passionate for.
"I thought I was going to be in extreme pain getting up this morning. I don't know what it is: the air, the bed that he's got me in, or whatever. I feel great this morning, and I'm ready to back out there and do it again," said Amira.
Workman hopes next year will bring more visitors to Liberty Lodge.
Their presence at his home brings him therapy, too, as he is also an Iraq War Veteran.
"It's letting these guys and gals know I've found a way through nature, kinda heals itself. That's how I get my therapy," said Workman.

A fundraiser for Liberty Lodge will be held at Cornell University this Saturday, October 9th.
It's to raise money to build a new 3,500 square foot lodge across the street from Workman's home.
