Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Congressman Maurice Hinchey continues to push to keep the mail flowing from Binghamton.
The U.S. Postal Service is reviewing plans to close the Binghamton Mail Processing and Distribution Facility. That would either cut or relocate 73 jobs in the Southern Tier to the Syracuse facility.
Hinchey sent in a letter asking Post Master Patrick Donahoe, asking the post master to reject the plan that he says would negatively impact customers, postal workers, and the overall community.
The U.S. Post Office continues to face major financial crisis despite an increase in the price of stamps, job cuts, and other cost cutting moves.
