Hitting the pavement for YMCA (with photos)
Town of Dickinson, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Hundreds laced up their shoes and hit the blacktop to raise money for the YMCA and promote teamwork with their coworkers. It was all part of the Corporate Challenge on Thursday night held by the YMCA of Broome County on SUNY Broome's campus. Moe than 1,000 participants from nearly 45 local businesses competed together to raise money for the YMCA. "It's about coming together as a community, it's about being healthy, it's about supporting the kids in the community," said branch Executive Director Gayle Pado. There were four different races: A 5K, predicted mile, mile relay and an executive mile. For some, participating in the Corporate Challenge is something that bonds employees and employers together. "I like giving back to the community, especially for an employer that is really prominent in this area, but it's kinda fun for people that I don't normally see on a daily basis," said Binghamton University employee Jeffrey Horowitz. "We look at it as a time to get out and enjoy each other's company and have a good time," said senior engineer John Konrad. YMCA officials say this event has been going on for more than 25 years. They hoped to raise $16,000 from the races on Thursday. Levene, Gouldin and Thompson was the title sponsor.
