Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Thanksgiving turkey was just put away, but the Roberson Museum and Science Center is already bringing in the Christmas cheer.

Friday, November 23 was the kick off of Home for the Holidays 2012, it runs until December 30.

Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Jason Fiume said, "It's a time that we are open 7 days a week. We've got displays from all over the world, holiday traditions that are decorated by members of our community."

Home for the Holidays has been going on for over 50 years.

"it's become such a community tradition with families especially," said Fiume, "they'll be home for the holidays and they may have come here as a kid and then coming back with their own kids."

14-year-old Lucas Hanson is from out of town, but he's been to Home for the Holidays before, "I was here when I was 8."

The museum is broken up into three different sections: the Christmas Tree Showcase, International Forest and the Mansion. With so many things to see, its hard to pick a favorite.

Lucas is a fan of the mansion, and Ben Barton from New Jersey, likes the Christmas trees.

Ben's sister, Kate, likes them too. She said, "i like the zoo one because it has all of the animals on it, and the butterfly one."

But for Fiume, it isn't the lights or decorations that bring him the Christmas spirit. "I think my favorite part is that it really is a community driven event. Roberson is happy to host this year after year, but the bottom line is it wouldn't happen without all of the help from the community that helps put this together. The trees, the lights, it turns into a really big celebration and to see people who have grown up in this area, moved away and came back with their kids, we hear all the time that people have been making it a family tradition for over 40 years on their own."

Christmas may be weeks away, but the lights, trees and joy will put you in the holiday spirit now.
