Homeowner believed to be dead after fire

Freeville, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office reported that on June 18 around 2:47 a.m., deputies responded to a house fire at 107 Mill Street in Freeville.

Cayuga Heights, Dryden, Freeville, Etna, and Groton Fire Departments responded to assist with the fire.

During the investigation, human remains were discovered at the scene and they are believed to be that of the homeowner.

The name of that person is not being released.

An autopsy has been scheduled and the investigation is continuing with the assistance of the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

The sheriff's office said it does not appear that the fire is suspicious in nature.
