Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Vestal Public Library paid tribute to former librarian, Kathy Kretzmer, for her 35 years as a librarian.
She retired earlier this year, but unfortunately passed away only a month later.
Kretzmer had dedicated much of her career toward building the children's section of the library.
The library named the Youth Services Department after her on Thursday and unveiled a new sign and plaque in her honor.
"It's wonderful for us, as a family, to have her recognized. The plaques and the honor is something that we'll totally enjoy over the years, something that we'll remember forever," said Eric Kretzmer, Kathy's husband.
"Like a lot of people have said, she really dedicated herself to children. She loved the children. One of the memories I carry of her is at Halloween, she'd always dress up when she had the story hours for the kids," Director of the Vestal Public Library, Carol Boyce, added.
The family and library were surprised when Town of Vestal Supervisor, John Schaffer, announced that April 25 will be Kathy Kretzmer Day in recognition for her work in the community.
