Candor, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Saturday was the annual Candor Fourth of July celebration. Just up the road from the carnival, a strong competition on four legs pulled along the riverside.

Approximately 3,000 pounds of horse pulled more than 3,000 pounds of weight Saturday afternoon.

Belgium horses carried extra weight at the third annual horse pull. Teams traveled from throughout the region to participate in the strength competition.

There are two categories: Lightweight and heavy weight, a difference of hundreds of pounds.

The competition starts by pulling more than 2,700 pounds on a truck, and adding more weight after making it 27.5 feet.

Participants couldn't pull the weight by themselves, so everyone worked together.

All the proceeds from Saturday's pull went to Candor's American Legion.

Most of the competitors from Saturday will be back on Thursday for the horse pull competition at the Tioga County Fair. The pulling starts at 5 p.m.
