Guilford, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Chenango County Sheriff's Office conducts another search on the property of a Guilford woman, already arrested on fraud and animal cruelty charges.

On June 29, 2011, Stephanie Algiere-Hanchett, 28, of Guilford, was arrested for Scheme to Defraud and Animal Cruelty.

These charges came after Deputies say she solicited funds through a rescue fund called A Ton of Love Draft Horse Rescue, Inc.

The money was intended for the hernia surgery of a two-year-old horse.

The Sheriff's Office says Algiere-Hanchett instead used the funds to purchase other items, and failed to have the surgery done on the horse.

Deputies say she also failed to care for the needs of two horses who were in need of medical attention.

Those horses have been removed from her property.

On Wednesday August 17, 2011, the Chenango County Sheriff's Office and a veterinarian searched Algiere-Hanchett's property, after more complaints about three remaining horses being abused.

That search found no further evidence animal abuse.

Algiere-Hanchett has already had one appearance in the Town of Guilford Court.
