Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Acting Tioga County District Attorney announced she will run in the Republican primary.
Irene Graven took over as the acting Tioga County District Attorney in January for Republican Gerald Keene.
Keene served for more than 25 years before being elected as a judge for Tioga County.
Graven worked as an assistant DA for 13 years under Keene.
With a 97 percent conviction rate, she said she is the right person for the job.
"And you can rest assured that as your district attorney, you'll have someone who not only protects your community," Graven said, "But I will firmly commit myself to uphold the integrity of the criminal justice system."
She emphasized cracking down on drugs and fraud, which she says have been a problem in the past for the county.
Graven becomes the third candidate to enter the Republican primary.
Adam Schumacher and Kirk Martin have also announced their candidacy.
Candidates still must file a 1,000 signature petition by mid-summer to qualify for the ballot.
The Republican primary is scheduled for Sept. 10.
