Ithaca Police Investigating Tuesday Fire

(WBNG Binghamton) According to a news release, the Ithaca Police Department is investigating a fire that occurred Tuesday morning in the 100 block of North Aurora Street.

According to the news release from the Ithaca Police Department:

On December 18, 2012 at about 8:10 am the Ithaca Police Department responded to the 100 block of North Aurora Street to assist the Ithaca Fire Department in the investigation of a fire incident at 108 and 110 North Aurora Street.

Responding officers assisted in securing the scene while IFD Firefighters located and extinguished the fire. Damage to 108 North Aurora Street, Mercato Bar and Kitchen, and 110 North Aurora Street,
Blue Stone Grill, was extensive.

Residents of the apartments in the immediate area were evacuated for safety precautions. The Red Cross is assisting them as needed.

The origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation and has yet to be determined; Origin and Cause Investigators have determined that nothing appears to be suspicious in nature so far. Dryden Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance responded to the area to assist.
