Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A buyer's market perhaps like never before. Real estate agents say those looking to buy have their pick of homes and prices.
" If you're looking to buy, it's the time because the prices are right and you're going to get a lot of house for what they're asking."
Lori and her husband took advantage of the market and made the move to Vestal.
They say there is a lot of real estate inventory in the area.
"Buyers are looking to find the right deal and they're working diligently at it. They want to take advantage of the historically low interest rates," says Tom Sbarra with Century 21.
Sbarra points out that anymore, you can buy a house for cheaper than you can buy some cars.
For sellers, that's a struggle. The offer they'll get often is not enough.
"What we find is expectations don't meet reality," says Thad DeMulder with RealtyUSA.
Sellers know what their house was worth but that won't hold up in this market.
"The price of my house is not what it was a few years ago, but I'm in a position where I could go with the market," says Joanne Martone.
Joanne Martone put her house on the market with the plans of living with her daughter.
It was shock to receive a call the day after the for sale sign went up.
"If the house is priced correctly, like in any market, good, bad, or otherwise, the property sells," says Sbarra.
Tom Sbarra says that's the key to success in the 2011 marketplace.
Real Estate Agents say the market is closely tied to the local economy. While they cannot predict what the market will do, they say it will likely make a turn around in the next few years.
