Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Lockheed Martin's Owego facility announced it is reducing 40 jobs in its janitorial and cafeteria operations.

These positions will be transitioned to vended services beginning Monday, July 21, according to Keith Little, spokesperson for Lockheed Martin.

In a statement, the company said that a lengthy review of the cost, operations, and affordability went into the company's decision to go external.

"This action is necessary to maintain the stability of our business and ensure we are affordable for our customers," said Little, "The selected vendors are established and proven experts in their respective fields where it is not among Lockheed Martin’s core capabilities as a technology company."

According to Lockheed Martin, other sites across the corporation have made similar transitions in the past that have resulted in a large number of impacted employees being offered and accepting positions with the respective vendors.
