Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Some of the areas hit hardest from the flood in 2006 say they are better prepared, and earlier Wednesday were standing their ground against the on coming water.
Johnson City's north side was covered in several feet of water back then, and those same streets are under evacuation orders.
But the home owners we spoke with tonight are staying to try and minimize the damage to their homes this time.
" We did get a phone call, but we're not going anywhere. I think I'll work through it and get it done. Try to keep going. I'm not going to give up, because once you do that, jeez, then it's really a mess," said Joe Mikalajunas.
" We have the sump pumps ready. They're up and running right now and we're just keeping a close eye on it," said Dave Rychlicki
Those who had hoped to stay acknowledged there may be a point that they will also have to give up their efforts and get out.
