Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Village of Johnson City neighbors are not happy with police response. Some say it's been untimely recently.

Johnson City is investigating complaints from residents who say members of the police department are giving them the wrong answer when fielding calls.

JC officials say they've received a number of complaints from residents who say they've called the Village police department for assistance and were told by someone in the police department that the police were "short staffed" and were then advised to "call the Mayor's office."

Village leaders are trying to get to the bottom of the response.

Action News reached out to Police Chief Joseph Zikuski this afternoon.

He acknowledges manpower for the JC department has dwindled but says there is no change in service.

Hey says emergency aalls are always first priority.

Zikuski did say there may be times where all officers are tied up on emergency calls--taking more time to respond to non-emergency calls.

If worse comes to worst, mutual aid is available.

Johnson City leaders say those who are saying the force is short staffed will face disciplinary action.

" Its irresponsible its unacceptable and its certainly unprofessional. The police chief has already identified some officers that have made some comments that are out of line so the police will deal with individual officers on an individual basis," says Johnson City Mayor Dennis Hannon.

The Village is asking any residents who feel they have not had a timely response or if they've been told there are staffing issues, to contact the mayor's office (607)-798-7861.
