Town of Tioga, NY (WBNG Binghamton), When Donette Hutchinson chose her topic for a compare and contrast essay assignment she had no idea it would come to this.
The senior at Tioga Central High School wrote about the similarities and differences between drinking while driving and texting while driving.
She and her teacher decided the whole school needed to hear what her research found. Hutchinson gave her presentation including a short video.
She also asked WBNG to bring the Eyes Forward campaign to the school.
After her presentation students lined up to sign the pledge.
"I hope that many other people that many people were affected by it. And it does change your life," said Hutchinson.
"It is quite shocking statistics really, no one really knows this stuff or expects it. She did a really good job presenting it to the class and showing us that it is really dangerous to text and drive, " said classmate Steven Lounsbury.
Hutchinson received an A for her assignment. She hopes to attend SUNY Delhi next fall.
The Eyes Forward campaign is a partnership between WBNG, Columbian Financial Group, UHS and Sodexo.
