Windsor, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Select student athletes gain skills aimed at helping them both in their sport and in their lives.
John Underwood held a leadership workshop at Windsor Central School called, Life of an Athlete on Tuesday.
Underwood is an Olympic coach and professional sports team consultant.
The workshop was for kids in grades 7 through 9.
Life of an Athlete was introduced back in 2012 during the Stop DWI Holiday Tournament, but organizers decided to bring the lessons to younger students this year.
The goal is to create a culture where healthy habits are the norm.
"If you're going to do alcohol and stuff, there's no reason to play a sport because it's just going to ruin what you do and your ability to how you play the next day or how you exercise to do that," said Paul Monsen, a freshman at Whitney Point.
Over 1000 kids have registered for the program.
All of the kids selected for the workshop were from section 4.
