Chevrolet's newest hybrid car will be on the market early next year and New York State is one of just seven states to carry it.

This week, local dealers began taking orders for the Chevy Volt.

One local dealer is getting ready for its much anticipated arrival.

At Bob Gault Chevrolet in Endicott, the calls keeps coming in.

Bob Gault says, "we've had a number of calls in fact I was talking to a salesman the other day saying some woman calling from Illinois wanted to buy one but we're going to sell ours locally."

Illinois is not one of the seven states that are selling the 2011 Chevrolet Volt but New York is.

It will be the first electric vehicle with extended-range capability.

For the first forty miles the Volt drives completley gas free.

It runs on a battery.

Once that battery runs low, a gas engine extends the driving range another 300 miles on a full tank, making it the first hybrid car of its kind.

Right now the Toyota Prius is the best selling car on the market but as GM predicts the volt will be the best in its class giving the prius a little bit of competition.

At this time, the Volt prices out at $41,000 dollars.

A federal tax credit knocks off about $7,500 dollars off the total price.

Gault says despite the poor economy, residents still seem to be interested.

Gault says, "Its obviously is on the pricey side but there are people that like the new technology and are willing to pay a little bit more. The monthly payment is what matters to people and they're going to have a good lease on the car."
