(WBNG Binghamton) A local business owner announced he's challenging Republican State Senator Tom Libous for the 52nd district seat.

Denver Jones, a Republican, is the Vice President of Engineering at BSU Inc., located in Ithaca.

Jones said because of his business experience, he will do his job the way that the founding fathers intended it to be done, if elected.

"I can take information from all types of people and I'll look into that and see what makes sense," said Jones, (R), Candidate for NYS 52nd Senate. "I'm not going to go by what someone say 'oh we have to do this, we have to do that' I'll think it out. And I've always done that in my business and so on."

"The people from the bottom who are the everyday citizen, were going to select the person who would represent them. Whether it was for a local council or state senator, whatever," said Jones "They would be the deciding factor, not coming down from above and giving you 'oh here's a choice or two and now we have to go to the polls and hold our nose to vote. I've done that too long and I'm tired of it."

Jones' campaign headquarters are set up at 1901 Vestal Parkway East.
