Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Volunteers at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church are busy in the kitchen preparing dinners for Friday.

The meals help to fund the church's operations. They include pyrohy, halupki or fish, homemade soup and a dessert.

200 pounds of potatoes will be used to make 200 dozen pyrohy. 100 dozen cabbage pyrohy will also be made.

"During lent is our peak time. We double our production and double the amount of people that come for our Friday dinners and the amount of people who also come in and purchase pyrohy, really does double during lent,” said Father Teodor Czabala.

The dinners are served from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Takeout is available from 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The church also takes pre-orders.
