Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) In addition to happy customers, the Rochester-based Wegmans Food Markets can claim to have some of the happiest employees as well.

For the 17th year in a row, the store has appeared on Fortune Magazine's '100 Best Companies to Work For' list.

Wegmans dropped from it's number 5 spot last year, but is still solidly in the top 15%, ranking 12th this year.

Service Team Leader Ben Wilcox of the Johnson City location described the employees as a big family.

"There's no unapproachable people here, everybody cares about everybody," he said.

Feelings of contentment and camraderie begin with CEO Danny Wegman, who said that his main goal is to make sure that employees are happy and cared about.

"It's kind of a top-down thing, and they nailed it. We have people who have been working here for over 40 years," said Wilcox.

Fortune reported that nearly 66% of Wegmans jobs are filled by promotions within, and the retention rate helps young workers advance quickly.

257 Companies applied to be in the running for 2014's list. They were ranked based on responses from employee surveys taken at random. Some of the elements that played a part in the process included communication, management credibility, diversity efforts, and training.

To celebrate the accomplishment, Wegmans will be serving cake at the Harry L. Drive location on Saturday, January 18th from 11AM until 1PM.
