Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) With the help of a little dancing and exercise, the Family Reading Partnership in Owego is looking to fill some empty bookshelves.
The organization provides free books for children in the area and they're looking to stock up on more books through zumba.
The nonprofit held its first ever "Zumbathon" fundraiser Saturday at the Owego Free Academy.
Zumba is a type of dance workout for the entire body.
The Family Reading Partnership is currently low on books, in part due to large donations following the flood of 2011.
Now, they're trying to increase their stock.
"We have bookshelves all over the community," said Kristin Barton, the president of family reading partnership. "Our book supply is low. In the last five years, we've given out fifty thousand books to our community."
Those who attended the workout donated either a box of books or $10.
It's possible to burn up to 1,000 calories during an hour-long zumba workout.
