(WBNG Binghamton) Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) announced Tuesday that Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Sensors in Owego has received a Navy contract award totaling $13.5 million to extend a previously awarded contract for the upgrade of data and software systems of MH-60R helicopters.

According to a news release from Schumer's office:

This award will improve the ability of the helicopter to transmit data from its sensors, providing more information and a better understanding of the battle space to military commanders. The work will take place at the Owego location and is expected to be completed in June 2015.

“This federal contract means our troops will benefit from the best military systems in the world, all while investing in Lockheed Martin and its workers in Owego where these helicopters are made,” said Senator Schumer. “I applaud the Navy’s commitment to working with Lockheed Martin, which confirms what we already knew: Lockheed is a first-class defense firm doing incredible work across the State.”
