Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The third annual Mase Madness tournament took to the court Friday, dedicated to honoring the life of a baby taken from a local family too soon.
Hundreds of people came out to Johnson City Middle School, all to remember the life of Mason McKan, who was 6-and a half months old when he passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
There were 33 teams in four different categories, ranging from women's, girls', men's competitive, and men's recreation.
All funds from the tournament went to the Mason McKan Benevolence Fund, which helps to support underprivileged children with scholarships in an effort to pursue their dreams of athletic and personal success.
"The event is really a great thing for the community. We took a tragedy and turned it into a plus," said Michelle McKan, Mason's great aunt.
Mase Madness continues Saturday and Sunday starting at 8 a.m. at Johnson City Middle School.
