Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Vestal Central School District students worked to spread Halloween cheer for "Make a Difference Day."

High school students teamed up with elementary school students to spread the message of caring for a national day of giving back.

The teens gave up some of their Saturday to help the younger ones paint pumpkins.

The pumpkins will be delivered to local nursing homes to show the residents the community is thinking about them this holiday season.

The Vestal High School counselor said it was nice seeing the students work together.

"Our high school students really enjoy working with our elementary school students," Christi Smith said. "And the elementary students look up to the high school students as role models. So, when they can come together and work on a shared initiative it really means a lot to our students and out district. "

The Vestal Fire Department also stopped by the event to teach the students some fire safety tips.
