Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A walk for a cure drew 6,000 people to put their feet to the pavement for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

The fundraiser has been held in downtown Binghamton for more than 20 years.

The proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society in hopes of finding a cure for breast cancer.

One of the event coordinators said the disease hits close to home for him.

"Just last year, I had a cousin who every year came out to Strides for us," Peter Cittadino said," And I'm going to miss her face this year because I won't be able to see it."

The event raised more than $270,000 in just one day.
