Johnson City, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) The Financial Liberty Exercised Program (FLEX) is being brought to Davis College as a way to help ease the financial burden of incoming freshman.

The program will kick off during the 2014 fall semester.

Davis College is the first institution to bring the FLEX program to students in the Southern Tier.

FLEX is coming to the college through the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP).

It works similarly to a reimbursement program. Students will be held accountable to pay the monthly loan payments, but will ultimately be paid back by the college.

Any person making less than $35,000 a year is eligible for the FLEX program.

"It's a program I think will be a great help to them because this is one of the great issues that the Department of Education has to deal with today. There's so much debt amongst the students," Davis College President Dr. Dino Pedrone said.

The current cost of tuition at Davis College is $11,590 for a full-time, undergraduate student.

Davis College is one of only eight colleges in the United States to provide the program through LRAP.
