Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) One local group is trying to determine how Binghamton can making things better for the city's younger population.
Blueprint Binghamton is a 10-year program designed to improve the quality of life within the city.
The idea is to address strengths and weaknesses that already exist in the city, and use the information to identify steps for local youth to make healthy life choices and become more productive members of the community.
A meeting held Monday is the first of a two-step process to benefit the city's youth.
"We decided to start with the agencies, start with the adults first, get their feedback on the strengths and weaknesses that are out there already and established. Also to try to get them together and to see what resources maybe we could start to share. From that, then, we're going to meet with our youth at the high school and at the two middle schools and we're actually going to go into the elementary schools down to fifth grade," said Mark Ward, MYP coordinator for the Binghamton City School District.
Ward hopes meetings like these will help provide a voice to people who are affected by Blueprint Binghamton's decisions and programs.
