Town of Fenton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Officials say a man's anger quickly turned from a verbal lashing of his elderly mother to an attack on a Broome County Sheriff's Deputy.
The sheriff's office was called to a Town of Fenton home Thursday morning, where deputies say Randy T. Rosenkranz, 46, had been punching holes in the wall and verbally abusing his 77-year-old mother.
Responding shortly after, the sheriff's office says Deputy Richard Merrell tried to calm Rosenkranz down, but was instead attacked. Rosenkranz allegedly tried to choke the deputy, but was wrestled to the ground and arrested when backup arrived.
The sheriff's office says Rosenkranz had to be taken from the scene in a jail transport van with special restraints after the accused had beaten his head on the inside of a patrol car and threatened to kill all deputies.
Rosenkranz faces several charges, including assault, strangulation, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was arraigned in the Town of Fenton Court and taken to the Broome County Jail, where he awaits further court action.
